I am a relative newbie on making cabochons. I only have about 2 dozen cabs under my belt, so I am not very qualified to elaborate on this subject. 

Cabbing is about artistry, using your skills, artistry and talent to enhance or highlight some of Mother Natures' greatest works of art. The same slab in the hands of 12 different cabbers will come out about 15 different ways, so it is as much the individual as it is the material.

They are all little miniature works of art, so lets all keep on creating!!
